As packaging enterprises resume production and work, price increase notices from base paper manufacturers have been pouring in. In recent days, paper mills in Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Shandong, Guangdong, Zhejiang and other regions have announced price hikes of 50–100 yuan per ton. Driven by the base paper price surge, cardboard prices in some areas have also been raised, mostly by around 3%.

Nine Dragons Paper took the lead in announcing a price rise. Effective March 4, prices at its eight production bases were increased by 50 yuan/ton. In the following days, many paper mills including Shanying Paper, Jintian Paper, Century Sunshine Paper, Zhejiang Jinlong Paper and Shandong Depike Paper successively issued price adjustment notices with increases ranging from 50 to 100 yuan/ton.

Passing on cost pressures: cardboard prices rise in some regions

        Cardboard manufacturers responded quickly to the rising base paper market and issued price increase notices one after another. Some enterprises stated: “Affected by the recent tight supply and continuous price increases of base paper, our production costs have become unbearable, resulting in a serious cost inversion…”It is expected that more cardboard manufacturers will announce price increases in the near future. Carton factories at the bottom of the paper packaging industry chain are facing the first round of raw material cost pressure since the start of the year.
